'Hope for Success' is UBC Hope Club's annual workshop where we bring together volunteer UBC students as mentors and high school students around Vancouver as mentees to allow them to connect and have a wonderful experience throughout the different workshops prepared for this event.
The workshop consists of a training session for the volunteer mentors, and a series of in-person workshops where high school students can register to attend. Some workshops talk about university life in general and the UBC admission progress and in other workshops students were allowed to sit down with their mentors and chat and connect with them.
This is a great opportunity for high school students to get a look into the experience of studying at UBC. Throughout their conversations with their mentors, they will be able to learn about course load, extracurricular activities, other UBC events and more.
It is also important to note that this experience is beneficial for everyone who participates. Whether you are a high school student excited to start your university life or whether you are a UBC student looking to gain some more meaningful experience working
As marketing director of the club, I was involved in the planning and marketing of this event. It was a great experience overall, I learnt a lot about marketing and connecting with people and encouraging them to come to our events.
Personally, this was one of my favourite events to be part of. It not only helped a lot of high school students to feel less stressed about the admission progress and university life in general but it also gave the opportunity to UBC students to be in a mentoring position.
I encourage everyone to try out different clubs and positions and really get themselves out there. You never know if you will be able to find a new passion or career path.
